Growing up, my mom used to make a fruit salad consisting of red and green grapes, sliced bananas, chopped walnuts, and fresh whipped cream. We begged her to make it multiple times a year, but particularly in the hot summer months.
When I look back on those days, I distinctly remember what a simple but flavorful recipe it was.
Easy 4th of July Dessert
For the Fourth of July, I wanted to create a refreshing fruit-filled dessert in colors keeping with red, white and blue, of course.
All I had to do was revisit our family fruit salad recipe and switch out the fruit with strawberries and blueberries while maintaining the light, fluffy whipped cream. That’s how this sweet berries and cream recipe came to be!
This no-bake 4th of July dessert is one of the best. If you’re entertaining for the holiday, make this simple berries and cream dessert that will absolutely wow your guests!
And who can resist the cute presentation?
It is safe to say this is now a go-to dessert in our home for years to come!
Ingredients
Fresh berry fruit is packed with vitamins, as is cream. With little added sugar, this dessert is a better alternative to many others and you get to control the ingredients every step of the way.
Everything in moderation, though you may find it difficult with a dessert as subtly sweet as this one!
What’s better than layering fresh strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream in little cups for easy—and cute—serving?
Tip:
If you’re thinking about using store-bought whipped cream, think again. There is nothing as fresh and delicious as making your very own homemade whipped cream. Once you’ve had it, you’ll never go back to store-bought again!
This berries and cream recipe is one of the simplest recipes you may ever make!
Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Fresh homemade whipped cream, 1-2 cups - Once you make your own whipped cream, it’s the only one you’ll want time and time again! It also only takes about 12 minutes to make, you know what’s in it, and the flavor is as sweet as you want to make it.
- Strawberries, 1 quart ,fresh, sliced lengthwise in halves or quarters - Depending on how large you want your slices, I suggest either halving or quartering the strawberries lengthwise. For this recipe, I sliced them in half.
- Blueberries, 1 pint, fresh - If you are able to find fresh wild Maine blueberries, I believe they are the best tasting. While smaller in size, the flavor is nothing like most blueberries grocery stores typically carry. To me, most blueberries you find at the grocery store are slightly bitter and lacking in flavor. Berries and cream, in all their red, white and blue glory, will have sparks flying as a 4th of July dessert! You’ll be the envy of the party and everyone will want the recipe!
How to Store Leftovers
If you happen to have any leftovers, store the berries and whipped cream separate from one another in sealed containers in the refrigerator. The berries may last a few more days, depending when you bought them while the cream can be stored for 5 days or so. Inspect everything before you’re ready to eat it, just in case. Discard if it has spoiled.
